Ida was an absolute dream to work with. Recommended by my mother who owns a small church that serves as a wedding venue in Russell, from the minute we met Ida, we knew we had found the perfect celebrant for us. She was warm, welcoming, friendly – and had a wonderful sense of humour which was hugely important to us. We didn’t want to have a religious ceremony and, being a writer myself, the most important part of the whole day to me was the words. Ida couldn’t have done a better job of putting words to our vision. She captured perfectly the essence of Nath and I and I had countless people come up to me after the ceremony to say it was the most personalised, beautiful ceremony they had ever attended. Nothing was an issue for Ida – even though we chose to get married on a private beach where the entire bridal party was rowed ashore to the sweet sounds of the local Russell Ukulele Orchestra – she took everything in her stride (even the uninvited guests who turned up naked – we had actually chosen to get married on a nudist beach!). Everything about the day was perfect and we couldn’t recommend Ida more highly. We’d use her again in a heartbeat – and happily get married all over again! We eloped to Russell. So we were organising everything from afar. Ida was so helpful through the whole process with the organising of the ceremony, reception, florist and photographer.

If there was an award for best celebrant of the year Ida Birch would be number one in our opinion. She did an amazing job with the entire process, she was always approachable and communicated well. We decided to bite the bullet and get married.  We wanted a small intimate wedding in one of our favourite places in New Zealand – Russell.  We found Ida on the internet and set up a meeting at Easter this year. With both of us having at least one Irish parent, it was like meeting one of the family, she made us feel so comfortable it was as if we had known her for years. She got us to fill in a questionnaire to enable her to know us better.  This came in handy when on the wedding day made the ceremony so funny, personal,relaxed and stress free so that we could enjoy the day. Ida was the first and only celebrant we met with. Getting back into the car after meeting Ida we looked at each other and both said ‘Yes, she’s the one’. Ida is warm, fun, friendly and a complete pleasure to be around. She completely got who we are and that we wanted our ceremony to be fun and not soppy. Even to the point of letting us have a game of rock, paper, scissors incorporated in to the ceremony to decide which of us said our vows first (we both wanted to go first).            Ida went out of her way to make it exactly what we wanted and every guest came up to us afterwards and said how much they had enjoyed the ceremony and how personal and fun it was. Ida was not our marriage celebrant, Ida became our friend. From the very first meeting we clicked. She got us – and believe me that’s no mean feat! We appreciated her energy, her genuine interest in what we wanted and above all the professional ease she brought to the arrangements. Nothing was too much trouble – Ida always made us feel like we were her only clients. Ida asked us to give her some backround information- you know about ourselves, hoe we met, our likes, dislikes, etc. We never imagined that what we considered a rough outline could have been transformed into the most moving wedding ceremony either ourselves or our guests had ever heard. We had everyone, including the tough guys, sharing a gamut of emotions…laughter and tears. It was perfect. So many of our friends and family commented on Ida and how she set everyone at ease but still maintained the solemnity of the occasion. It is a shame we can’t say that we would use Ida again…. cos’ we are only doing this once!!! Well what can Mrs Hepple & I say?!
Ida was a star from the moment when we, all the way from the UK, had this crazy plan that we could get married sometime in 2015 in the Bay of Islands NZ. We emailed Ida (details obtained from internet search) to see when she might be available during second half of January to be our celebrant.
What we received back (given different hemisphere effectively by return) was a detailed resume about Ida, when she was available & then some invaluable information about red tape/ hoops we would need to tackle to make it all possible + links to local photographers etc.. (here we have to recommend Robyn Parker!). We met Ida face to face for the first time about a week before our wedding. (an informal, & wholly enjoyable lunch at the Duke of Marlborough in Russell) & immediately both of us knew that we had found the ideal person to marry us.
Ida did not disappoint. Monique & I enjoyed a lovely evening the night before the wedding at First Light Villa, The Eagles Nest with her husband Ian.
We could not have felt more comfortable & relaxed as we retired that night.
As for “the day” itself it was perfect. Ida has this wonderful “all will be fine, there will be no issues” way about her (I know there was only the two of us but you still get all wound up!).
I think it’s a bit of the Irish coming to the fore actually. Anyway, to summarise, we could not write a more glowing review. Ida you were lovely, Thank you so much.

We highly recommend Ida; can’t find a better celebrant in the Bay of Islands. She’s fantastic, well organised, has a great sense of humour, and you can feel that Ida is passionate about what she does. From our first Skype consultation, through the many questions we had, the final preparation for our big event, to the ceremony itself and the whole wedding day, Ida provided exceptional support. Everything went so well without fault. She organised so much for us, thinks of everything, supported us through the whole process, and is great fun. A wedding is an incredible journey, something you want to share with the special people in your life.
Last year a year before our wedding Jeremy and I were blessed to find an incredible, touching and beautiful lady by the name of Ida Birch. Ida touched our hearts as soon as we met her. We knew that she was going to be an amazing celebrant with her focus on us and our love and her personal touches whilst meeting her.
Ida soon really became part of our journey with her lovely emails and phone calls and kind words and guidance along our way.
Her husband Ian and Ida then basically became part of the family when they arrived to our farm to do the wedding rehersal and both of our families were touched at this special lady and her husband. Poor Ian was running round doing jobs on the farm for dad whilst ida spent her time with the bridal party settling everyone nerves and really getting to know each and every person in the bridal party. Ida did an incredible job of our ceremony both during the wedding and all the prep that led up to it. We feel absolutely blessed to have had her as our celebrant and now feel like she is a close friend and will always keep in touch with her. I highly recommend Ida as a celebrant especially to those getting married that feel they want someone who is extremely personal and will do whatever you need for you day.

Ida was the first celebrant that we found in the Bay of Islands on google.  We didn’t look any further and we are glad that we didn’t.  Ida replied to our emailed enquiry promptly then we spoke on the phone and skyped.  You warm to Ida straight away and she went far beyond the duty of a celebrant giving us contacts and suggestions etc. We had little local knowledge of Russell so really appreciated having a support person to help put together a perfect day for our wedding. All the people Ida put us in contact with such as the venue hosts Mark and Angelique Richards and the photographer Robyn Parker were awesome to work with as well.  Ida took the time to gather information from us to put together the ceremony.  Ida listened to what we wanted and she delivered! “As we are living in Queensland Australia, we knew arranging our wedding could be difficult to organize, in New Zealand. It’s just not down the road.  

However – we need not have been the least bit worried…Ida embraced the challenge, and dived in head-first, from day one!

Our very first proper email back from her, once we had confirmed her availability, contained pages and pages of advice, covering everything from how to apply for the marriage license, where to send it to, how much it would cost, options of where we could pick it up from, and even a direct contact within DIA so that we were only dealing with one person, if we had any queries with the paperwork side of things.
